AISC HIGH SCHOOL PEER TUTORING FAQ
Are you interested in serving as a peer tutor?
- What is peer tutoring? Peer tutoring is a voluntary service to the students in high school by other high school students. Tutors are needed for all subject areas to assist students in courses required for graduation
- How are students selected to receive tutoring? Students may voluntarily take the initiative to request for a tutor or students may sometimes be referred by a teacher or the parents. Tutors are not only expected to know the content well but also possess the skills to work through some of the learning challenges that their tutee is facing.
- Will I receive credit for my services? There is no academic credit given for tutoring, but students will receive a certificate of completion of hours that can be used towards the community service requirement.
- Do I need prior experience? No prior experience with tutoring is necessary. Students in Grades 10-12 may apply. Interested students should have earned at least a B+ or higher in the course and need to provide at least one recommendation from a teacher.
- When and where will tutoring take place? Tutoring will take place on campus during school, right before school or after school. Tutoring can take place in common areas around campus that are open for student use like the library.
